- CURRENT FLU VACCINE AVAILABILITY SEASONAL FLU VACCINE: Flushots for infants less than 3 years: AVAILABLE in all offices. Flushots for patients 3 and over: AVAILABLE in all offices. Flumist for patients 2 and over: AVAILABLE in Prosperity office only. VFC(State insurance ONLY): <3yr shots: All offices, >3yr shots: Prosperity Office only, Flumist: All Offices. - WHO SHOULD GET A SEASONAL FLU VACCINE: All children over 6 months of age are urged to get a seasonal flu vaccine. Children under 2 must get the shot. Children over two without chronic lung, heart, kidney, or immune conditions may take the nasal live vaccine. If this is the first year a patient nine years of age or younger is receiving the vaccine, a second dose is required one month after the first. WHO SHOULD GET A H1N1 VACCINE: (Changed to reflect CDC recommendations during limited availability) H1N1 INACTIVATED VACCINES (FLUSHOT): Anyone 6 months through 4 years, anyone living with or care for infants younger than 6 months of age, pregnant women, healthcare and emergency medical personnel, patients aged 5-18 years who have medical conditions that put them at higher risk for influenza-related complications. H1N1 LIVE NASAL FLUMIST: Anyone from 2 years through 4 years of age, patients 5 through 49 years of age who live with infants younger than 6 months of age, health care or emergency medical personnel. REMEMBER: ALL Children 9 years or younger should receive a second dose one month after their first dose of H1N1 vaccine. REMEMBER: Nasal Flumist CANNOT be given to patients with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, etc. REMEMBER: You must wait 4 weeks after a flumist for a second flumist vaccine.
